“Welcome home,” said Holy Spirit school division trustee Judy Lane.

Students, faculty and members of the community clad in Dragons red were welcomed into the refurbished St. Michael’s School in Pincher Creek on Friday to celebrate completion of the modernization project that has been in the works since 2014.

“I have been blessed to watch the transformation of this building into a modern, up-to-date facility readily meeting needs of our students in an ever-changing, fast-paced world,” Judy told those in the crowded gymnasium.

Town and MD councillors, the mayor, the reeve, the superintendent, trustees and members of the Blackfoot were present to extend a warm welcome and good wishes to the St. Michael’s community.

For the past couple of years, while the school was undergoing a major overhaul, students were split between two campuses — the school and the church building next door to Vista Village.

“It’s wonderful to have all of our staff and students under one roof again,” said principal Tina Delinte.

“We are so blessed to have a community that is invested in our school and supports us in so many ways.”

The project wouldn’t have been successful without support and hard work from countless members from the community, some of whom are no longer with us, Ms. Delinte explained.

“But, we truly stand on their shoulders and are reaping their hard work, their dedication, their prayers and their commitment,” she said, her voice shaking.

Ms. Delinte said the school community has learned a great deal throughout the project, such as patience, perseverance and trust.

“In facing the challenges together, we learned that strength is in us all and the ties that bind us here are strong, rooted and growing,” she said.

“Welcome to St. Michael’s School.”

The modernized campus boasts a new learning commons, career and technology studies space, library, gymnasium and many other renovations that encourage and support learning.
